The Kunsthalle München is set to unveil a groundbreaking exhibition, marking the first extensive retrospective in Germany dedicated to the illustrious Dutch fashion duo, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, known collectively as Viktor&Rolf. With a partnership spanning over thirty years, these fashion visionaries have continually pushed the envelope, masterfully blurring the lines between the exquisite realms of haute couture and fine art. Their innovative and often unconventional designs have not only captivated the fashion world but have also found admirers among iconic figures in the entertainment industry, including Madonna, Tilda Swinton, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat, and Cardi B. Their unique aesthetic has transcended the runway, breathing life into various ballet productions and even an opera under the direction of the acclaimed Robert Wilson.
This exhibition promises an immersive journey into the creative minds of Viktor&Rolf, revealing the duo's deep-seated passions, their unique artistic inclinations, and their unmatched vision. Visitors will be treated to a visually stunning display, featuring a carefully curated collection of 100 of Viktor&Rolf's most audacious and groundbreaking designs. Many of these pieces will be making their public debut, offering a fresh perspective on the designers' legacy. Additionally, the exhibition will include an array of multimedia elements, from captivating videos and original sketches that peel back the curtain on their creative process, to their signature fragrances like Flowerbomb and Spicebomb that have left an indelible mark on the olfactory senses of many.
In a unique fusion of fashion and art, the exhibition will also feature porcelain dolls, each meticulously attired in miniature versions of Viktor&Rolf's most iconic outfits, serving as a testament to the designers' intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail. Complementing these pieces will be works from a selection of esteemed visual artists, including Andreas Gursky, Ellen von Unwerth, and Herb Ritts, whose contributions further enrich the narrative woven through Viktor&Rolf's groundbreaking journey in fashion.
