— FELIPE PANTONE

Your kinetic art approach distinctly distinguishes you from a multitude of graffiti and contemporary artists. Could you delve into the specifics of this technique and share the intended messages you hope to convey through your artwork?

Thank you! I think we live in very exciting times in which technology plays a really important part. The internet gathers and discloses immediately and for free all the information of the world. The result of this is a very connected and quickly developing and changing world. I make use of dynamic compositions and elements that remind of technology in order to try to convey the feelings that I perceive as an active individual that has experimented the change that meant the invention of the internet.

In your "Portrait of an Artist" film by Selina Miles, you expressed a view that graffiti may not truly qualify as art. Could you elaborate on this concept?

Graffiti writers don’t have an artistic aspiration. The motivation is to write their names as big, as many times, with more style than the rest. That’s why I say that modern graffiti is rather a game than art. However, from an History of Art point of view, graffiti is such a big movement, hundreds of thousands of active members painting all over the world for more than 45 years, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop any time soon. From this point of view, as a phenomenon, I understand that it has to be taken into account.

Is it accurate to say that you subtly incorporate messages within your artwork? Could you share the nature of these embedded communications?

Some of my paintings include some QR codes that you can follow. As a visual artist I’ve always been very jealous of other disciplines such as films. A film is a work of art that includes several disciplines such as literature, visual arts, music, etc. With the use of the QR technology I can include anything in my paintings.

Your bold approach to utilizing a wide array of mediums is truly inspiring, from spray paint to advanced technology and 3-D sculpture. Is there any particular medium you haven't yet explored but are eager to experiment with in the future?

Thank you! I’d love to direct a movie one day.
