BALENCIAGA FALL ‘24

On the 2nd of December 2023, Balenciaga unveiled its Fall 2024 collection in Los Angeles, CA, marking the brand's inaugural fashion show in the city. Against the backdrop of a palm tree-lined street, accompanied by a custom track from BFRND featuring multiple voiceovers, the collection, curated by Demna, captures the essence of L.A.'s fashion culture through a cinematic, character-driven lens. The range encompasses diverse themes, transitioning seamlessly from everyday activities like jogging, yoga, and gym sessions to Hollywood evenings, showcasing step-and-repeat-ready, Cristóbal Balenciaga-inspired gowns. The runway also featured sections highlighting updated grunge, upscaled daywear, and the brand's signature tailoring.

THE LOOKS

The show commenced with an activewear chapter, featuring essential items such as shorts, bra tops, leggings, and sweatshirts. A jersey section followed, paying homage to the American velour tracksuit trend of the aughts, presenting new versions with low-slung trousers and cropped hooded jackets complemented by knee-high Alaska boots.

The collection delves into neo-grunge, presenting oversized and layered garments. Standout pieces include cut-up asymmetric trousers, a hand-embroidered leopard-motif coat, outdoor hotel slippers, and leather bags lined with nylon shopper totes.

Balancing informality and glamor, upscaled daywear showcased outsize proportions and precise tailoring. Hooded jackets with integrated scarves, designed for paparazzi deterrence, added a touch of practicality and style.

The eveningwear segment featured highly defined shapes and silhouettes, referencing original designs by Cristobal Balenciaga himself. Wrapped coat-dresses created angular, plush forms, while tailored one-shoulder gowns exuded a softer impression. The show concluded with a monumental white gown in heavy satin, paired with a structured face shield for an incognito element.

The accessories lineup included the new croc-embossed Rodeo bag, paying homage to the Beverly Hills street and Balenciaga's L.A. flagships. Essential carriers like the knitted 24/7 tote and the Monaco tote accompanied eyewear options, including evolved mask and batwing shapes, and the flexible Malibu line with elastic temples and premium titanium construction. A new addition, the 10XL Sneaker, characterized by exaggerated proportions, was introduced in two exclusive colorways (yellow/white/blue and blue/gray/black).

Post-show, exclusive release items were made available, including leather and paper tote bags, jerseys, caps, and aprons in collaboration with Erewhon, the renowned L.A.-based grocery store. The collection also featured the Le Cagole Tote XL, No Logo jersey pieces, and high jewelry created in partnership with Jacob & Co., embodying the spirit of American youth culture with a touch of Made in the USA opulence.
